Genelia D’Souza was born in Mumbai. Her name Genelia is given to her by her parents Jeaneet and Neil and her nickname is Jeanu. Genelia grew up in Mumbai and she identifies as a Mangalorean Catholic. Her mother tongue is Konkani. Genelia studied at Apostle Carmel High School in Bandra, Mumbai. She attended St. Andrews University, Bandra, and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. She was a state athlete and a national-level soccer player. Her first Hindi film was Tujh Meri Kasam, in which she co-starred with Ritesh Deshmukh. She left Bollywood for a while to focus on the Tollywood industry. Renowned Tamil director Shankar was so impressed by her performance in both commercials that he cast her in the lead role in his Tamil version of The Boys in 2003. She returned to the Tamil industry with Sachain and Vijay. Box office performance was average. Her second Hindi film was Masti, in which she also appeared opposite Ritesh.
