Early in her career, she took up modeling work and appeared in a famous biscuit commercial alongside famous actor Suriya. She was then asked by Arjun to write the lead role in his film Madrasi and Vedhika accepted the role. Because the film was based on Arjun’s action image, her role received little attention, with one critic calling her performance “adequate”. A film of the same name was released in 1975, but it never materialized and Vedhika continued to act in South Indian films. She later appeared in Raghava Lawrence’s horror comedy Muni, but her role was again minimal and the film was an average commercial success. Her first Telugu project was “Vijayadasami”, a remake of the Tamil film “Sivakasi”, in which her performance was rated “fair” and “average” by critics.
Her first release in 2008, Kaalai starring Silambarasan, received negative reviews and was a commercial failure. However, it was the dance number ‘Kutti Pisase’ that made the film noteworthy and Vedhika’s dance received critical acclaim. She then acted in two consecutive films, which were poorly received by critics and failed financially due to her role in Sakkarakatti. The long-delayed film saw Shantonu Bhagyaraj debut in the lead role and A.R. Rahman provided the soundtrack.
