Anjali was born in Razor, Andhra Pradesh. She completed her schooling in Razor, after which she moved to Chennai, where she obtained a degree in Mathematics. Immediately after completing her studies, Anjali started her career by appearing in short films. She has two brothers and sister and she thinks about her family as the biggest support system.

Filmmaker Kalanjiyam desired to initiate Anjali to the Telugu film industry. He cast her in three of his films, ‘Satamintri Musamidhu’, ‘Valiba Desam’ and ‘En Kanav Thanad’, but all three of her films did not materialize. After this, Anjali started concentrating on her modeling career and one day while she was working, she was spotted by Shiva Nageswara Rao and offered her  next directorial project ‘Photo’ (2006). The film did not receive good reviews and her next Telugu film Premalekha Raasa (2007) was also a box office disaster. 

She made her debut in Tamil cinema in 2007 with the psychological thriller  Kattradhu Thamizh. The film, directed by Ram, was presented with cheerful ratings and castigatorul cheer from everywhere in the industry. Anjali won her Best Female Debut Award in the 55th Filmfare Awards. In 2008, Anjali appeared in her first Kannada film, Hunganath, but she received  very poor response both commercially and critically. She next played opposite Mahesh in the romantic drama ‘Angadi Tedu’. The film, directed by Vasanthabaran, was a huge success and was shortlisted for the  Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in India. After the success of ‘Angadi Tedu’, Anjali went on to film ‘Retta Suji’ (2010), ‘Majithi’ (2010), ‘Payyans’ (Anjali’s Malayalam film debut, 2011) and ‘Kalunga’ (2011).
