Parvathy Thiruvothu Kottuvattaa  is an Indian actress best known for her work in Malayalam  films as well as Tamil and Hindi  films. Thiruvothu’s acting career began with the 2006 Malayalam film Out of Syllabus. Her performance in the Tamil romantic drama Poo (2008) earned her the Film-fare Award South for Best Tamil Actress. Over the next decade, she received widespread recognition for her roles in various Malayalam films, including Bangalore Days (2014), for which she received a Film-fare Award South, and Ennu Ninte Modin (2015), for which she received a Kerala State Film Award. She won the  Film-fare Awards South for Best Malayalam Actress for her roles in “Best Actress” and “Charlie” (2015). Her success continued with her lead role in Take Off (2017), for which she won the IFFI Award for Best Actress, a Special Award at the National Film Awards. She then appeared in films such as Uyare, Virus (both 2019) and Puzhu (2022).  

Parvathy was born on  April 7, 1988 in Calicut, Kerala, to P. Vinod Kumar and T. K. Mahr. Usha Kumari, both are  lawyers. She has a younger brother named Oum Thiruvothu Karunakaran.  During her student days, her family moved to Thiruvananthapuram where she continued her studies. After graduating from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pangode, she completed her Bachelor’s degree. She went on to obtain her PhD in English Literature from All Saints’ College, Thiruvananthapuram. She went on to have a successful career as a TV presenter with Kiran TV, a full-time music channel based in Thiruvananthapuram.

Acting debut and success (2006–2011). Parvathy made her acting debut in the 2006 Malayalam film Out of Syllabus, in which she played a supporting role as a college student. Her second project, Rosshan Andrews’ Notebook, attracted media attention for its theme of teenage pregnancy. She was selected from 5,000 applicants as one of the three leading roles, alongside Roma Asrani and Mariya Roy. She  also starred in Sathyan Anthikkad’s comedy-drama film Vinodayatra (2007), in which she played a supporting role alongside an ensemble cast that included Dileep, Mukesh and Meera Jasmine.

She was surprisingly selected for the film alongside Puneeth Rajkumar and began production on the film in April 2007. The film received mixed reviews, but the actress’ role was praised. One critic stated that she was “a great choice for the role” and added that “she has the right attitude for the role”. The film was a huge commercial success and ran for 500 days at a multiplex cinema in Bangalore. She returned to the Malayalam industry to play the  female lead in Sibi Malayil’s Flash alongside Mohanlal and Indrajith. Before the film’s release, she revealed that she hoped the film would help her breakthrough as a leading actress in the industry. However, the film was a commercial failure and received poor reviews upon release.
